McCalls #M8031 - Alexis

Next weekend was supposed to be the 125th Anniversary National Convention for Chi Omega in Memphis, Tennessee, the headquarters of the organization.

I was so excited to go, I found the perfect fabric for a trip to Memphis. Mood had this Khaki Green Abstract Cotton Twill in an abstract diamond motif. I loved the colors and felt it would look great with the southern city as the backdrop.

While circumstances have changed, I still really wanted to make a garment using this fabric. So I picked out the new McCalls M8031 - Alexis dress. The dress features a button-down front closure with collar, belt, side seam pockets, and optional patch pockets and sleeve ties. I chose to make view D with the sleeves from view C.

This pattern is perfect for the cotton twill I had. The silhouette is loose-fitting and has a pleat along the back yoke to add a little more fullness. The optional belt really helps to pull in and accentuate your waist.

The best part is that I was able to use the 7 packages of 1/4" double fold black bias tape that I had purchased (and didn't need) for the Vogue Jumpsuit. You can read that post here. I lined the edges of the front facing, tie, collar, and inset it into the seam of the yoke.

I really love the way the dress turned out and I hope to be able to visit Memphis one day. While I am here in NYC, I decided to use the extra fabric I had to make a matching mask and use more of the bias tape.

Let me know what you think:
