Minerva: Spring Floral Cotton

Spring is in the air and for the new season I have created a beautiful midi-length dress with the Lady McElroy cotton poplin fabric in silver. The dress was created with Simplicity pattern #S8875, a misses v-neck dress with large pleated sleeves, a full gathered hemline, center back zipper, and umpire waistline. I sewed view B without adding the optional buttons down the center front.

The sleeves have details with gathers at the armhole, and a pleat at the end of the sleeve. The neckline has several style lines, including a center front seam starting from the top of the neckline all the way down through the bottom of the hem. The gathered skirt at the bottom is shown to have a center front slit along this line. I chose to close the slit because I wanted more coverage from the chilly weather.

I love that this dress is an easy go-to statement piece. The fabric is lightweight so it’s perfect for a breezy afternoon and pairs easily with a cardigan or jacket. The length insures that your dress will not be blowing up but the gathered hem creates a fun, full flounce that flows with the wind.
