Sew-Along: Vogue #V9288

In September of 2021, I was able to go backstage to a New York Fashion Week show as part of the designing team and not as a production assistant. This was a full circle moment for me to be able to come back to New York and visit for such a monumental event.

I needed to make something extra special for this occasion.

Searching through SR Harris in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, I found this beautiful Donna Karan double faced jacquard and saved it in my stash for a special garment. When I found Vogue V9288, I knew this would be a match made in heaven.

The misses cape with a high collar, pockets and belt works perfectly for a double faced fabric since you will be seeing the inside of the cape. However, I wanted to make sure that I was really showing off this element of the fabric so I decided to make a slit in the sides of the cape in order to let my arms come through and the fabric to move and flex.

Repurposing a roll of black double folded bias binding, I was able to fully enclose all of the raw hems while making sure the cape was truly reversible.

Pacific Trimming in the NYC Garment District had the perfect buttons to finish the look.
