ArtIS 203: Jewelry/Metalsmithing
This intensive class is intended to serve as an introduction to the basic processes utilized in the fabrication of jewelry and metal objects. Attention will be given to primary techniques such as sawing, cutting filing, abrasive work, textural treatment, and methods of connecting metal that include silver soldering and cold joinery. Finishing process will be covered. Attention will be given to what constitutes good design; methods of making jewelry/body adornment functional and wearable, and how it relates to historic and contemporary thought.
